A rising football star in Sevilla has died of a heart attack at the age of just 13.
Francisco G. A, from Aguadulce, died after falling seriously ill and being taken to hospital in Osuna.
The teenager began to feel unwell on Sunday afternoon after a sudden spike in fever and was transferred to Hospital de Osuna, where he passed away in the early hours of Monday.
According to initial information, the cause of death was cardiac failure, although the underlying reasons are not yet known.
Francisco was a keen footballer and played for Peloteros Sierra Sur, where he was a member of the club’s youth team.
On Saturday, he had featured in a match against Real Betis in the Under-13 First Andalusian Division.
He had been with Peloteros Sierra Sur since the age of seven, and news of his sudden death has caused deep shock among teammates, coaches and friends.
The club’s president, Jose María Pinto, expressed his sorrow, saying the organisation was devastated by the loss and that the tragedy had left the entire club in mourning.
The town of Aguadulce has declared three days of official mourning following the teenager’s death.
In a statement published on social media, the Ayuntamiento de Aguadulce said flags on municipal buildings would fly at half-mast and all sporting activities would be suspended as a mark of respect.
The council expressed its deepest condolences to Francisco’s family and loved ones, describing the loss as a tragedy that has profoundly affected the entire community.
