A drug robbery gone wrong was allegedly behind a violent shooting incident in Mijas over the weekend.
The dramatic events left one man shot in the face, several vehicles wrecked and 75kg of hashish seized in El Faro on Saturday.
Emergency services were alerted after residents reported gunfire and multiple crashed vehicles at around 4pm.
According to sources close to the case, the violence was the result of a so-called ‘vuelco’ – the term used by police for robberies of drugs between criminal gangs.
Shot in the face, rushed to hospital
The first stage of the incident allegedly involved the theft of a vehicle driven by the man who was later shot.
The victim, a 24-year-old, suffered a gunshot wound to the face, close to the mouth, and was taken by ambulance to Hospital Costa del Sol in Marbella.
Moments later, a chain-reaction crash involving several vehicles unfolded in the same area, with one car plunging down an embankment.

Foot chase through scrubland
Five patrols of the Policia Local de Mijas – close to 10 officers – were deployed after witnesses warned that those involved were armed and had fled on foot.
Officers pursued suspects through a nearby ravine. One man was located hiding among dense vegetation, while a second suspect was intercepted in a parallel street close to the scene. Both were unarmed at the time of arrest.
The pair were detained on suspicion of robbery with violence, attempted homicide and drug-related offences.
As officers secured the area, a firearm was found inside one of the crashed vehicles. Later in the afternoon, police made a far more significant discovery: more than 50 packages of hashish, hidden inside a nearby container, with a total weight of 75kg.
The Guardia Civil has confirmed the incident is linked to drug trafficking and that a full investigation is under way to determine the exact sequence of events and identify any additional suspects.
