A bizarre photo circulated widely on social media last week supposedly showed three migrants dressed in sheep costumes who were ‘caught trying to enter Spain from Algeria.’
The image, shared widely on X and Instagram, depicted people wearing bulky white outfits covered in wool-like material, faces darkened and sitting in the back of a truck.
One X user claimed: ‘In Algeria, three individuals of unknown nationality were arrested as they attempted to cross into Spain… disguised as sheep.’
An Instagram post went further, alleging the picture was taken on November 2, 2025. But none of it was true.
A reverse-image search shows the photo is actually a screen capture from videos circulating in 2024, in which a group of performers danced in full ‘sheep’ costumes to the theme tune of the children’s TV show Shaun the Sheep.
Multiple TikTok videos posted in July 2024 show the same people, in the same outfits, dancing together, not attempting to cross any border.
In one clip, they even dance to a Ukrainian-language version of the show’s theme song. The viral still image was simply flipped horizontally and miscaptioned before being shared again in 2025.
There is no record whatsoever of migrants in Algeria being arrested while disguised as animals.
