An 11-year-old boy has died after being struck by a vehicle early on Sunday morning on the A-92 motorway, near the town of Huetor Tajar (Granada province).

The accident occurred at around 6.45am at kilometre 201 of the motorway. According to the Guardia Civil, which has taken charge of the investigation, the child was on foot when he was hit by a passing car.

Authorities are now working to locate the boy’s family, as he was reportedly carrying no identification at the time of the incident.

The mayor of Huetor Tajar, Fernando Delgado, confirmed that the victim was a minor from the municipality.

He said he was alerted to the tragedy by the Policia Local, who had been called to assist emergency services.

The crash happened near an area where two service stations are located on either side of the motorway.

Police are trying to determine how and why the boy came to be walking in such a dangerous location.

‘The situation is deeply distressing,’ Delgado said, adding that the town council was working to support efforts to contact the child’s relatives.
