Three suspects and a police officer have been killed during a dramatic car chase on the Costa del Sol.

The incident began at around 5.30am on Thursday, when a gang of criminals crashed into the wall of a pharmacy before raiding it.

The authorities were quickly notified and patrols from the Policia Nacional and Policia Local began pursuing the gang.

The thieves managed to evade capture, and during their escape ended up driving on the wrong side of the A-7 highway.

While they lost track of the cops chasing them, their high-powered vehicle ended up colliding with another car, in which a Policia Nacional officer happened to be traveling in.

The impact, near Torremolinos, was so severe that it caused both cars to immediately burst into flames.

All four men died instantly, police sources said.

The investigation is being run by the Policia Nacional, who are now analysing images from DGT cameras.

The recordings are considered key to reconstructing what happened in one of the province’s most serious accidents so far this year.
