At least 13 people have been injured after a car ploughed through a crowd of football fans on Thursday night.

In footage shared on X, a white Peugeot 208 can be seen accelerating through dozens of people outside the RCDE Stadium in Cornella, Catalonia.

The terrifying incident occurred just minutes after the start of a La Liga match between RCD Espanyol and FC Barcelona.

According to SER, the car was being driven by a woman who began to accelerate and reverse into the crowd after fans began rocking and shaking her vehicle.

According to the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police), there are at least 13 injuries, nine of them minor.

Sources quoted by Spanish media said the incident was not premeditated.

However the driver, aged between 45 and 55, and who was also treated by medical services, has been arrested.

Among the 13 injured is the son of Xavier García Albiol, the mayor of Badalona.
