Marbella’s Local Police have launched a cutting-edge pilot project, fitting officers with bodycams that beam real-time footage directly to the force’s Command and Control Center (CECOP).

Mayor Angeles Muñoz said 10 officers will trial the devices over the next three months, each equipped with an eight-hour battery life, in a bid to ‘boost officer safety and operational muscle’.

‘We’re committed to making sure our police have the best gear possible, and we’re putting the money where it matters,’ Muñoz said in a statement.

She said the scheme adds to the more than 360 fixed surveillance cameras already keeping watch over the municipality.

The first field tests kicked off during Holy Week, and according to Muñoz, the new cameras will integrate seamlessly into Marbella’s central monitoring system, delivering ‘vital evidence and a full, real-time picture’ of officers’ actions.

Citizen Security boss Jose Eduardo Diaz said the force’s Technological Police Unit had helped roll out the new system.

‘This tech gives our officers the freedom to move while giving HQ an eagle-eye view of the ground,’ he said, adding it will cover everything from roadblocks and crashes to high-traffic patrols.

Plans are already in the works to extend the real-time coverage to the Fire Department and Civil Protection too, Diaz confirmed – a move he said would create ‘stronger, faster’ emergency responses across Marbella.
