A 47-year-old man has died in Tenerife after suffering a cardiac arrest while at the beach.

The unnamed beachgoer was swimming off Playa del Puertito in Adeje on Monday afternoon when he came into trouble.

The 112 emergency service was called at around 3.22pm and an ambulance was sent to the scene.

Paramedics were flanked by Policia Local, the Guardia Civil and medical teams stationed at the beach.

The 112 service said it received reports that a man had been ‘pulled from the sea’ after suffering a cardiac arrest.

It added: ‘The lifeguards performed basic CPR on the victim until the arrival of SUC (paramedics) resources, who continued with advanced rescue manoeuvres without success, confirming his death.’

The Guardia Civil carried out a routine investigation to establish the events.
