CCTV has captured the moment a masked gunman was identified by his victim in southern Spain.

The short clip (below) shows a man in a black hoodie and balaclava brandishing a gun inside a convenience store in Los Palacios y Villafranca.

The town of around 30,000 people is situated in the province of Sevilla, and is said to be experiencing somewhat of a crime wave.

The attacker repeatedly tells the cashier to ‘open the register’ and to ‘give him everything’ inside.

Despite having a pistol pointed right in his face, the shopkeeper, named as Fernando, keeps stalling and moving very slowly, showing little desire to hand over his daily takings.

After a series of abusive comments from the assailant, the shop owner suddenly says: ‘I know you, you’re the prawn!’

Upon realising he has been made following the use of his nickname, the criminal runs out of the shop with his tail between his legs as the Fernando chases him.

The police were immediately called and the suspect was apprehended within minutes.

However the chase was reportedly dramatic, resulting in multiple officers being injured and one cop car damaged.

Mayor Juan Chacon said: ‘Yesterday, the Los Palacios y Villafranca Local Police arrested the criminal who attempted to rob a business at gunpoint, as seen in the video circulating online.

‘The arrest came minutes later, following a chase in which our officers suffered various injuries. I wish them a speedy recovery. This is how the patrol car looked afterwards.

‘My congratulations to our officers for their swift response. Now, let’s hope the full weight of the law falls on this individual. A message of support for Fernando, the owner of the establishment that was robbed.’
