A three-year-old boy has died after being left inside a car in southern Spain.
The toddler was found dead inside the vehicle on Calle Pintor El Greco in Linares, Jaen, on Tuesday.
His 72-year-old foster father has since been arrested by the Policia Nacional for alleged reckless homicide.
The parent is said to have been responsible for taking the boy to daycare at around 9am each day.
For an unknown reason, on Tuesday, he left him in the car seat instead of walking him in.
When the foster mother went to pick up the boy, she discovered he was not there, and upon returning home, the foster father realised he had forgotten him.
He then discovered the child was inside the vehicle, parked on a busy road.
However, because the windows were tinted, no one had been able to notice the child was inside.
The mother called the 112 emergency service, who immediately sent paramedics and police to the scene.
Officers attempted to revive the child with CPR but nothing could be done to save him and his death was confirmed.
The child’s body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, where an autopsy will be performed.
