The whole of Andalucia has once again been placed on a weather alert for Wednesday as Storm Kristin rolls into Spain.

The ‘small but powerful’ weather system is bringing dangerously strong winds, with gusts of over 130km/hr forecast for parts of the southernmost region.

According to state weather agency Aemet, the worst affected areas will be in Almeria, specifically in Nacimiento, Campo d Tabernas, the Almanzora Valley and Los Velez.

The zones are on an orange alert between 9am and 9pm, with gusts of up to 120km/hr, which Aemet warns could exceed 130km/hr locally – well above the hurricane-force threshold of 119km/hr.

Almost identical alerts are in place for Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarras in Granada, with maximum gusts of 120km/hr.

An orange warning for gales is also in place for parts of Cordoba and Jaen, with maximum gusts of 100km/hr.

Only in Ronda (Malaga) and Grazalema (Cadiz), are orange alerts issued for heavy rainfall, with up to 80 and 100mm expected per square metre over 12 hours respectively.

Both regions are also on alert for strong gales of up to 100km/hr.

Meanwhile, the rest of Cadiz and Malaga provinces (including the Costa del Sol), plus the whole of Sevilla province, are on a yellow alert for winds of up to 70km/hr.
