Two more trains have derailed in Spain just days after the deadly Cordoba collision that has left at least 42 people dead.

The latest derailments took place in Catalonia, with at least one driver dead and 31 others injured.

The more serious incident took place in Gelida, when a Rodalies commuter train crashed into a retaining wall that had fallen onto the tracks.

The driver was killed and 31 others are injured, one of them critically, according to sources from the Catalan emergency services.

Elsewhere, another train derailed after an axle came loose when it collided with a rockfall between Maçanet Massanes and Tordera, also in Catalonia.

National railway operator Adif has suspended all Rodalies services in Catalonia until further notice.

It comes as much of the region is under alerts for extreme weather due to Storm Harry.

About 15 ambulances and 11 fire crews were dispatched to the scene of the first accident, sources from the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police) told EFE.

As a result of the accident, which occurred on a day of heavy rainfall throughout Catalonia, the Ferrocat plan was activated. The 112 emergency hotline received 28 calls related to the accident.

The second accident took place on the R1 line of the Rodalies commuter rail network, between Maçanet Massanes and Tordera (Barcelona).

According to Adif sources, there were 10 passengers on board the train, and fortunately no injuries were reported.
