Two wanted sexual abusers have been arrested on the Costa del Sol within the space of 72 hours.
The fugitives, an Italian man aged 51, and a Frenchman, 47, were detained in Malaga and Fuengirola respectively.
According to the Policia Nacional, investigators from the UDYCO organised crime unit first tracked down the Italian suspect wanted under a European Arrest Warrant.
Italian authorities accuse him of sexually assaulting a minor.
Officers carried out surveillance in the city centre until they were able to confirm his identity and detain him.
The second case unfolded in Fuengirola, where a routine patrol spotted a French national who also had an active European Arrest Warrant for sex crimes involving minors.
Once identified, he was taken into custody and the investigation was handed over to the local organised-crime unit.
Both men have now appeared before the Central Court for Detainees at Spain’s National Court, the body that handles extradition proceedings.
Police said the two arrests ‘reflect the effectiveness of cross-border cooperation in tracking down foreign fugitives who attempt to hide in Spain’.
