A former socialist councillor has dropped dead in Cordoba after suffering from sudden heat stroke.

Manuel Ariza Serrana, a well-known local figure, died while enjoying a hike on Sunday, when much of the province was on red alert for extreme temperatures.

Ariza Serrano, who once represented the PSOE, was out walking a rural trail within the municipality of La Rambla when he collapsed in temperatures that have gripped the region for days.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene but were unable to save him.

La Rambla’s town hall issued a message of condolence via social media, extending its sympathies to his family, friends and political colleagues, and acknowledging ‘the grief felt across the community.’

Ariza Serrano was regarded locally as a committed public servant whose absence leaves a deep void in both the political and social fabric of the town.

At the same time, the council urged residents to take extreme precautions as the heatwave continues, warning that failure to follow health advice could result in further tragedies.

‘We must all adhere to the recommendations of health authorities to avoid heatstroke and accidents related to these high temperatures,’ the statement read.
