Suspect's wrecked Nissan Qashqai following the crash on Thursday

An alleged British hitman has been arrested on the Costa del Sol after crashing his car and trying to flee on foot.

The unnamed gangster is said to be a member of one of London’s most feared mafias, and is allegedly responsible for multiple assassinations.

He had no identification when he was arrested in Riviera del Sol, Mijas on July 31, but cops found two guns, one with a silencer, in his wrecked Nissan Qashqai – and a book about how to practice Buddhism.

They also discovered ammunition for the pistols and a notebook with names and addresses written down.

The events leading up to his dramatic arrest began at around noon on Thursday when a police patrol was called to a petrol station.

Two Dutch women told them that a man with a British accent was ‘harassing them to buy cocaine’, reports Diario Sur, citing police sources.

The officers checked the CCTV cameras and the footage appeared to coroborate their version of events, and showed the black vehicle leaving the garage.

Fortunately for investigators, the same car crashed into a wall on Calle Orfebres shortly afterwards, and the suspect staggered out, clearly injured, and fled the scene.

The Brit did not get far and officers intercepted him and arrested him, before carrying out a search of his car.

Photos shared by the Policia Local de Mijas show how they found two pistols, one with a silencer, several rounds of ammunition and a notebook containing names and addresses.

The authorities were able to identify him by using ‘biometric data’, Spanish reports said.

According to sources, the suspect was wanted for several murders and had an immediate arrest warrant issued by a Fuengirola court.

The detainee was subsequently brought before a court and sent directly to prison. The investigation remains open to clarify his links to international organised crime.
