A red weather alert was issued for a Spanish holiday hotspot on Thursday.
The warning, from state weather agency Aemet, was in effect for most of Gran Canaria between 10am and 9pm.
The red alert covered the west, south and east of the island, with temperatures reaching 40C and above locally.

It comes amid some of the hottest days of the year across the majority of Spain, with hundreds of towns and cities under alert for high temperatures.
These include Andalucia, the Costa Blanca and the Balearic Islands.
