The man accused of beating a Spanish pensioner ‘for no reason’ while his two friends allegedly filmed and shouted insults has been arrested.

The suspect was cuffed in the Basque city of Renteria on Monday while trying to catch a train to Irun, with authorities believing he planned to flee to France.

He is currently being held by the Guardia Civil before being brought before a judge.

It means all three men, reported to be of North African origin, accused of attacking Domingo, 68, in Murcia last week have now been arrested.

The random attack in Torre Pacheco in the early hours of Wednesday was jumped upon by far-right forces across Spain, who spread misinformation online, before hijacking a peaceful protest on Friday.

According to reports, young men from across Spain travelled to the town to stoke tensions and carry out ‘hunts’ of Moroccan immigrants.

There have been violent clashes on the streets of Torre Pacheco for the past three nights, with further violence expected on Monday and Tuesday.

Police sources quoted by 20Minutos said there have been nine arrests so far in total, consisting of five Spaniards and four Moroccans.

The police operation is ongoing and further arrests are not ruled out.
