A four-year-old boy has died after falling into a swimming pool in Mijas in what is now the seventh child drowning in Andalucia so far this year.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 9.15am, when a witness called 112 emergency hotline to report that a child had been pulled from a private pool.
The tragedy unfolded in La Alqueria, a quiet residential area popular with foreign homeowners and summer renters.

Despite the arrival of 061 paramedics, along with officers from the Guardia Civil and Local Police, resuscitation efforts at the scene proved futile.
The boy was pronounced dead just moments later.
