Marbella Town Hall has unveiled plans for a new underground car park and boulevard in San Pedro de Alcantara.
The project will create 265 parking spaces and transform more than 21,000sqm of land, although construction is expected to take two-and-a-half years.
The development will be built between Calle Pablo Ruiz Picasso and Avenida Fuente Nueva, beside a well-known supermarket and close to the municipal sports centre.
The underground car park will provide 215 spaces, while a 12,000sqm boulevard featuring a large children’s playground will be created above it.
It comes as new housing developments continue to be built in the town at a rocket pace, raising concerns about adding to already existing parking woes.
Plans also include two main roads, each featuring two lanes running in a single direction, as part of a wider overhaul of the area’s road network.
The project will be complemented by an extension of the redevelopment of Avenida Fuente Nueva from Calle Castilla, creating another 50 above-ground parking spaces.
Together, the two schemes will cover approximately 21,000sqm and provide 265 parking places.

San Pedro deputy mayor Javier Garcia said construction was expected to begin during the first half of 2027, around the time of Spain’s next municipal elections.
The work has a budget of €15million and an estimated completion time of 30 months.
It will include new water, sewerage, telecommunications, electricity, lighting and irrigation infrastructure.
An overhead high-voltage electricity line between Avenida Fuente Nueva and Avenida Pablo Ruiz Picasso will also be placed underground, allowing two electricity pylons to be removed.
Garcia said the council eventually intends to continue San Pedro’s northern ring road in a second phase, connecting it with the Ronda road and the access routes to Nueva Andalucia.
