Temperatures across Andalucia may have dropped considerably towards the end of this week, but the cool down won’t last for long.

According to state weather agency Aemet, temperatures are forecast to soar to as high as 39C in the coming days.

The predictions show another blast of intense heat developing across the region, particularly in inland areas, as the calendar moves from August into September.

Temperatures will already be well into the mid-to-high 30s across much of the interior on Sunday, August 30, before climbing even further on Monday.

Ecija in Sevilla province could reach a scorching 39C on Monday, while Sevilla city and Cordoba are forecast to hit 38C.

Large parts of the Guadalquivir valley will experience similar conditions, with temperatures of 37C to 38C widespread across inland areas.

And while the Costa del Sol will escape the most extreme temperatures, beachgoers can still expect plenty of warm summer weather.

Temperatures rise on Sunday

The heat will begin building on Sunday, with highs of around 37C forecast in several inland areas.

Sevilla is expected to reach 36C, while Ecija could hit 37C. Similar temperatures are forecast around parts of Cordoba province, including the Montilla and Lucena area.

Granada and its surrounding interior will see temperatures broadly in the mid-30s, while inland areas of Malaga province will also remain hot.

There will be a marked difference along the coast, where the Mediterranean and Atlantic will keep temperatures more comfortable, but still in summer territory.

Marbella is forecast to reach around 28C, while temperatures around other parts of the Costa del Sol will generally sit in the upper 20s and low 30s.

Cadiz is forecast to reach around 28C, while temperatures around Motril on the Costa Tropical will be approximately 27C.

Monday will be the hottest day

The heat is forecast to intensify significantly on Monday, August 31, which currently looks set to be the hottest day of the three.

Aemet’s map places Ecija at 39C, while both Sevilla and Cordoba could reach 38C.

Other parts of Sevilla province are forecast to hit 37C or 38C, while Granada could reach 37C, with temperatures of up to 38C elsewhere in the province.

Guadix is forecast to reach 37C, while parts of inland Malaga will climb to around 35C or 36C.

The heat could also make for some uncomfortable nights. Aemet’s forecasts show minimum temperatures of around 21C in Sevilla and above 20C in several other areas, meaning some locations could experience another noche tropical – the term used when temperatures fail to fall below 20C overnight.

The coast will again fare considerably better.

Marbella is forecast to reach around 28C, Velez-Malaga around 30C, Cadiz 27C and Algeciras approximately 27C.

Still hot as September begins

Temperatures are expected to ease somewhat on Tuesday, September 1, but summer will be far from over.

Cordoba and Ecija are forecast to reach 37C, while Sevilla and Granada could hit 36C.

Temperatures of around 35C are expected around Montilla, Osuna and parts of inland Malaga, with Guadix also forecast to reach approximately 35C.

Once again, coastal areas will remain significantly cooler.

Marbella is forecast to reach 28C, Velez-Malaga around 30C, while Motril and Algeciras are expected to sit at approximately 27C. Cadiz is forecast to reach 28C.

The pattern means there could be a difference of more than 10C between parts of the Andalucian interior and the coast during the hottest part of the day.
