Malaga Airport is preparing for one of the busiest weekends of the summer, with almost 2,000 flights scheduled in just three days as Spain enters the August holiday weekend.
A total of 1,902 arrivals and departures are scheduled at Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport between Friday August 14 and Sunday August 16 – accounting for a remarkable 72% of all flights operating from Andalucia’s five main airports during the period.
The surge coincides with the start of the Feria de Malaga, one of the biggest events of the year on the Costa del Sol, which is expected to draw huge numbers of visitors to the city.
Activity at the airport will be 5.3% higher than during the equivalent weekend last year, when 1,807 flights were recorded.
Friday is expected to be particularly busy, with 662 flights scheduled – 141 domestic and 521 international.
Another 613 flights are due to operate on Saturday, comprising 96 domestic and 517 international services, followed by 627 on Sunday, including 124 domestic and 503 international connections.
Overall, international travel overwhelmingly dominates the schedule.
Of the 1,902 flights operating from Malaga this weekend, 1,541 are international, meaning more than eight out of every ten aircraft will be arriving from or departing for destinations outside Spain.
Malaga dominates Andalucia’s airports
Across Andalucia, a total of 2,644 flights are scheduled between Friday and Sunday, almost 6% more than the 2,494 recorded over the comparable period in 2025.
Malaga dwarfs every other airport in the region.
Sevilla is second with 513 scheduled flights, followed by Jerez with 84, Almeria with 81 and Federico Garcia Lorca Granada-Jaen Airport with 64.
Malaga and Sevilla alone therefore account for 2,415 flights – around 91% of all scheduled operations in Andalucia over the three-day period.
Granada is the only one of the five airports expected to record a fall in activity compared with last year.
Across the region, Friday will be the busiest day, with 922 flights, followed by Sunday with 873 and Saturday with 849.
Friday has also recorded the sharpest year-on-year increase, with 114 more flights than during the equivalent day in 2025 – a rise of around 14%.
