A man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a waiter with a screwdriver during a terrifying incident at a chiringuito on the Costa del Sol.
The 32-year-old suspect is being investigated for attempted homicide following the attack in Torre del Mar on Monday afternoon.
According to reports from Diario Sur, the incident unfolded at around 5pm after emergency services received reports of a violent man armed with a large screwdriver.
Local police officers rushed to the scene and found the suspect already being restrained by members of the public.
Witnesses said the man allegedly entered the chiringuito, pulled down his trousers in front of customers and became aggressive when staff challenged his behaviour.
He is then said to have produced a large screwdriver and started threatening workers and diners, shouting: ‘I’m going to kill you all.’
A waiter reportedly stepped in and attempted to remove the man from the premises before the situation escalated violently.
The suspect allegedly knocked the employee to the ground and stabbed him in the shoulder with the screwdriver.
Several bystanders intervened and managed to overpower the attacker before police arrived, preventing the incident from becoming even more serious.
The injured waiter was treated at the scene by paramedics and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police have confirmed the suspect will appear before judicial authorities accused of attempted homicide.
