A Spanish cardiologist has sparked debate online after claiming two common ingredients found in everyday diets are ‘literally killing’ people.
Aurelio Rojas, who regularly shares medical advice on TikTok, made the warning in a recent video that has quickly gained traction.
In it, he points to what he says is a worrying trend of a sharp rise in cancer among younger people.
‘Over recent years, cancer in young people has increased by more than 80%,’ he claims, citing forms such as breast, colon, stomach, pancreatic, endometrial and prostate cancer.
According to Rojas, these cancers share a common factor – elevated levels of insulin in the blood.
He explains that while insulin is essential for the body, chronically high levels can have dangerous effects.
‘It acts like a fertiliser for tumour cells,’ he says, arguing that it can stimulate their growth and prevent their natural destruction.
The doctor identifies two key culprits behind these spikes in insulin: Sugar and refined wheat flour.
‘These are foods that not only sit behind many types of cancer,’ he says, ‘but also most of the cardiovascular diseases I see every day in my clinic.’
His message is blunt: cutting these from your diet could be one of the most important steps in protecting long-term health.
While Rojas’ claims have struck a chord online, it is important to note that cancer is a complex disease with multiple causes, including genetics, environment and lifestyle factors.
Mainstream medical guidance generally supports reducing added sugars and ultra-processed foods, but does not single out specific ingredients as sole causes of cancer.
