A person has died and at least three others have been injured after an explosion ripped through a bar in Almeria on Wednesday afternoon.
The blast occurred at around 5.20pm on Calle Conde Villamonte, close to the Plaza de Toros health centre and the bullring, triggering a major emergency response.
According to Andalucia’s 112 emergency service, multiple calls were received within minutes of the explosion, prompting the deployment of firefighters, paramedics and officers from both the Policía Nacional and Local Police.
The force of the explosion – believed to be caused by gas – caused significant damage in the surrounding area.
Several parked vehicles were hit, while nearby buildings suffered structural damage and scorch marks as the blast sparked a fire, according to local reports.
The street was immediately sealed off to traffic as emergency crews worked at the scene.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the victim, and the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
It comes days after an explosion at a hotel in the neighbouring province of Granada.
A worker was left seriously injured when the blast, also believed to be caused by gas, tore through the top floor of a hotel in the centre of Almuñecar.
More than 50 guests had to be evacuated after a fire broke out, sparking a dramatic emergency response.
