Sevilla’s Semana Santa could face a beer shortage after a strike was called at key logistics centres responsible for supplying drinks across the city.
The CCOO union has announced a 48-hour walkout this Thursday and Friday among staff at DHL Supply Chain, who operate at the Heineken-Cruzcampo logistics hubs in Mairena del Alcor and Dos Hermanas.
The union claims workers have faced 18 years of wage stagnation, saying the company has only applied the minimum increases set out in provincial agreements, without offering additional improvements to reflect the demands of the job.
CCOO says the situation has reached a breaking point, warning that staff cannot continue under what it describes as ‘precarious’ conditions or rely on individual agreements.
Workers are demanding pay rises, but also broader changes. These include formal recognition of forklift operator bonuses, a clearer and fairer incentives system, and extra pay for fourth-shift and rotating schedules.
They are also calling for better work-life balance measures, such as guaranteeing at least three weeks of summer holiday.
The union has also raised concerns about the so-called fourth shift, which it argues breaches legal requirements on weekly rest periods.
It is also demanding compensation for public holidays that fall on rest days or Saturdays, a right it says is backed by Supreme Court rulings but not currently being applied.
CCOO has urged DHL management to enter negotiations ‘in good faith’ to avoid a shutdown at these key facilities.
The timing is particularly sensitive. With Semana Santa just days away, Sevilla is entering one of its busiest periods of the year, when demand for drinks and logistical activity peaks sharply.
