A British expat has been arrested at Murcia Corvera airport over a suspected gangland-style murder.
The 40-year-old, who lives in Torre Pacheco, was detained by Guardia Civil officers due to suspicions he may have been trying to flee.
He is accused of involvement in the shooting of a 33-year-old Czech man in Torrevieja, who was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a street near Punta Prima earlier this month. The victim later died in hospital.
Investigators believe the killing may be tied to a wider web of criminal activity on the coast, although early findings suggest it is not directly linked to the high-profile murder of Northern Irishman John George, whose body was discovered in a lemon grove in Rojales in January 2025.
The Czech victim had previously given evidence in that case and reportedly claimed he had received death threats, adding another layer of intrigue to the investigation.
The suspect was stopped on March 17 in the airport car park, where officers found luggage and his passport in the boot of his car.
While police suspect he may have been planning to leave Spain, other sources claim he was there to drop off a relative.

He has now been remanded in custody following a court appearance in Murcia, while detectives continue to hunt for possible accomplices.
The killing is the latest in a string of violent incidents involving foreign nationals on the southern Costa Blanca, with recent shootings believed to be linked to drug-related score-settling.
The investigation remains under strict secrecy as authorities work to unravel what they believe could be part of a much larger criminal network operating in the area.
