The Andalucian Health Service (SAS) has created a digital health card that will be available to residents from March 26.
The announcement was made by the regional minister for health Antonio Sanz, during a presentation in Sevilla.
The new tool will allow residents to manage healthcare services directly from their mobile phones.
Users of the public system will be able to identify themselves at health centres and pharmacies, collect medication, and access a range of services without needing a physical card.
The system will operate using a high-security dynamic QR code, accessible through the Citizen’s Folder as well as the Salud Andalucia and ClicSalud+ apps.
Among its advantages, Sanz highlighted that parents will also be able to store their children’s health cards on their own devices, making family organisation easier.
The traditional physical card will remain valid, as both formats will be compatible.

A further step towards digital healthcare
The rollout of the virtual card is part of a broader digital transformation project led by the SAS and the Andalucian Digital Agency.
The aim is to create a more efficient healthcare system by reducing bureaucracy and making services easier to access.
This push for digitalisation also includes the automation of administrative processes, the integration of healthcare platforms into a single digital environment, and improved communication with users.
Notifications such as appointment reminders will increasingly be sent via channels like WhatsApp, replacing traditional SMS messages.
New services to improve care
The plan also introduces innovative tools such as a Virtual Waiting Room, designed to prevent system crashes during peak demand, and a Virtual Health District, which will offer alternatives when no appointments are available at a patient’s usual health centre.
Coordination between professionals is also being strengthened through direct communication between pharmacies and doctors, particularly benefiting patients with chronic conditions.
In addition, digital skills training will be promoted through the Puntos Vuela centre network, with a special focus on older residents.
