A British man has been arrested for allegedly trying to stab a driver in the neck during a road rage row in Marbella.
The 49-year-old was reportedly living in Spain illegally, having overstayed his 90 in 180 day limit, and was driving a rental car under a third party’s name.
The incident occurred several weeks ago at a roundabout in San Pedro de Alcantara.
According to reports, the victim, a 61-year-old Spaniard, said the suspect blocked his vehicle, got out of his car and tried to stab him in the neck with a butterfly knife.
It followed an argument over access to the roundabout.
The victim is said to have recorded the majority of the attack on his mobile phone, which he later showed to police.
With quick reflexes, the victim was able to avoid a neck wound by moving his head and blocking the attacker with his arm. The assailant fled the scene.
After several weeks of investigation and surveillance, Marbella’s Local Police arrested the Brit after he was stopped for not wearing a seatbelt. He was identified thanks to an arrest warrant.
The arrest took place at a checkpoint in Nueva Andalucia.
As part of ‘Operation Viking’, the Brit faces charges of serious crimes, including threats, illegal possession of weapons and violation of immigration regulations.
