After several unusually warm days in Andalucia and much of Spain, temperatures are set to plunge this weekend as an Atlantic trough sweeps in.
While northern Spain will feel the brunt of the shift, Andalucia will also notice a marked drop, especially on Friday.
Early morning temperatures could fall to 5C in Baza (Granada) and 9C in Cordoba, while Sevilla will sit around 13C.
There may also be some calima (Saharan dust haze) in parts of the region, although no significant rain is forecast.
Daytime highs will remain relatively mild, still hovering above 20C in many areas. Sevilla will be the warmest province at 24C, while Cadiz and Malaga will stay close to 20C.
Cloud cover will increase along the Mediterranean coast, with high clouds and morning mist.
Province-by-province forecast (Friday)
- Almeria, Cadiz, Granada, Málaga: Highs around 19C
- Cordoba: Up to 22C
- Huelva: Around 21C
- Sevilla: Between 11C and 23C
- Jaen: Between 9C and 18C
Minimums will be lowest inland, with Granada dropping to 6C and Jaen to 9C.
February 28: Cooler Andalucia Day with scattered showers
On Dia de Andalucia, weather alerts disappear but skies will turn cloudier, particularly in the eastern half of the region.
There is a chance of afternoon showers, possibly with isolated thunderstorms, in areas such as Sevilla, Jerez, Malaga, Linares and Andujar. Elsewhere, skies will be clearer but temperatures will dip slightly.
Winds will be generally light and variable, with a moderate easterly wind developing in the Strait later in the day.
March begins quietly but rain returns next week
Sunday, March 1, will bring little change. Conditions will be mostly dry, with only the possibility of weak showers along the Mediterranean coast – including Malaga, Marbella, Nerja, Ronda and Algeciras.
Highs will range between 17C and 22C, with Jaen again the chilliest province.
But don’t pack away the umbrellas just yet. Rain is expected to return early next week, first in western Andalucia on Monday before spreading across much of the region by Tuesday.
After a brief late-February calm, unsettled weather looks set to make a comeback as March gets underway.
