A 35-year-old woman has been remanded in custody in Marbella after allegedly holding a 74-year-old man captive overnight, beating him and cutting off part of his fingertip over a €200 drug debt.
Policia Nacional say the victim was illegally detained, assaulted and subjected to degrading treatment inside a second-floor flat on January 26 of this year.
The suspect allegedly acted alongside a man who has since died of natural causes during the investigation.
Tied to a chair and threatened with fire
The case came to light after a passer-by found the injured pensioner in the street and alerted police.
Officers discovered the man had thrown himself from a second-floor window in a desperate bid to escape.
According to investigators, he had been tied to a chair, beaten, had his head shaved and had the tip of one finger severed.
Police say the attackers also doused him with a flammable liquid and threatened to set him alight.
Fearing for his life, the man leapt from the window while his captors were distracted. He landed on a parked car, which broke his fall but left him with multiple fractures.
Drug debt ‘trigger’
Investigators believe the violence was triggered by an alleged €200 debt linked to drugs.
The Marbella Homicide Group led the inquiry, identifying the suspects and arresting the woman, who has now been sent to prison on provisional charges of illegal detention, assault and crimes against moral integrity.
The second suspect died of natural causes days after the incident while police were still carrying out inquiries.
