A man has been arrested for animal abuse after a mastiff was found hanging from a bridge in Cordoba province.
The Guardia Civil received a phone call on Saturday, February 5, alerting officers that a large dog had been suspended from a bridge in Baena and appeared to be alive.
Officers rushed to the scene and launched a complicated rescue operation.
The mission proved challenging due to the strong current flowing beneath the bridge, and required the assistance of a member of the public.
The animal was successfully brought to safety and handed over to a local animal protection group.
After receiving veterinary treatment for its injuries, the dog is now recovering and is not believed to be in life-threatening condition.
Following an investigation carried out jointly by the Guardia Civil and Local Police, officers identified a local resident as the suspected perpetrator.
He was arrested on February 10 on suspicion of animal abuse. He will appear before a judge.
