Estepona town hall has blasted the national government over its alleged lack of plan to fix the 300 or more potholes on the notorious A-7 motorway.
In a seething statement, the ayuntamiento said the major Costa del Sol highway falls under the jurisdiction of Madrid – who have so far revealed ‘no plans’ for repairs.
However, Pedro Sanchez’s government has yet to respond to its request for plans to repair the ‘dangerous’ motorway.
It fumed: ‘The central government still lacks a project, a work plan, and a specific budget to carry out comprehensive and urgent repairs to the road surface of the A-7 motorway, where numerous potholes endanger thousands of drivers daily.
‘This was acknowledged by the central government in response to a letter from the City Council demanding immediate intervention.
‘City Council technicians have identified more than 300 points on the motorway requiring urgent repairs, for which the central government is responsible.’
It added: ‘The City Council, for its part, will urgently implement a plan to repair the damage caused by the heavy rains on urban roads under its jurisdiction.
‘Municipal technicians and the Local Police have already prepared a map of the affected areas within the city.’
It comes after Marbella announced it would be spending €450,000 to repair potholes across Marbella and San Pedro.
However, the most lethal area remains on the fast-moving A-7 motorway.
Over the past few days, scores of drivers have claimed their tyres were ‘blown out’ by driving over the holes.
