A dramatic rescue operation unfolded in Alicante on Monday morning after a fell down a rocky cliff.
The mastiff became trapped between the crags at Cabo de San Antonio, in the municipality of Xabia.
The alarm prompted an immediate response from firefighters from the Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos de Alicante.
Crews from the Denia station rushed to the scene to carry out a time-critical rescue.
Given the steep, rugged terrain and difficult access, firefighters were forced to deploy a rope rescue system in order to safely reach the animal.
Working carefully among the rocks, the team descended to the dog’s position and secured it before beginning the ascent.

After several tense minutes, the mastiff was successfully lifted to safety.
The firefighters shared a photo of them beaming from ear to ear while hugging the rescued dog.
They wrote in a post on X: ‘This is how happy Bomberos de Denia and this beautiful mastiff were after being rescued this morning in Cabo de San Antonio.
‘The dog fell off a cliff among the rocks, so it had to be rescued by installing ropes. Fortunately, everything ended in the best possible way.’
