This is the moment a young man rescued a dog from the banks of a riverbed in Malaga on Sunday.
The heartwarming scenes show Mariano struggling to reach the poor pup, who had been washed away by floods in Cartama.
But the determined hero wades through the sludge to reach the dog before picking it up in his arms and kissing it on the head.
A video of his efforts was widely shared on social media, with many calling him an inspiration.
Mariano explained that he took the dog to the police, who are trying to find its owner.
When someone asked if he released the dog, he said: ‘I really didn’t want to, but we handed him over to the police who would take him to a shelter and see if he’s microchipped.

‘Hopefully, he’s from a house where they’re looking for him. Last night, a neighbour’s dog was lost, and I did the same thing – I took him home to his family.’
He added: ‘There will always be good people, and this beautiful country has given me so much in such a short time. We have to give back with good deeds!’
He later shared a pictured of the dog in the back of a police van after being cleaned off with a towel.
