A 17-year-old girl has died after being struck by a vehicle on the A-7 motorway in Almeria.
The fatal incident occurred in Huercal-Overa at around 10.15pm on Thursday, according to Emergency Services 112 Andalucia.
The teenager had got out of the car she was travelling in, which was being driven by a family member, when she was hit by another vehicle.
Several motorists raised the alarm after noticing two cars stopped on the carriageway and a person lying on the road, prompting an immediate emergency response due to the extreme danger of the location.
Traffic officers from the Guardia Civil, Local Police, road maintenance crews and medical staff from the 061 emergency health service were dispatched to the scene.
Paramedics treated the girl at the roadside, but she died while being transferred to Hospital de La Inmaculada, emergency services confirmed.
The tragedy has caused deep shock in Huércal-Overa.
An investigation is under way to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, and no further details have been released at this stage.
