A woman went into cardiac arrest after suffering a suspected electric shock at a hotel in Granada, it has emerged.
The guest had been enjoying a day out with her mother at the Hotel Villa Oniria on Wednesday when the incident occurred.
The woman, aged around 30, is thought to have been electrocuted when she pushed the button to turn on the bubbles of a spa pool.
Both the victim’s mother and a member of hotel staff were the first to assist her and alert the emergency services.
Health sources confirmed on Thursday that the woman is now out of danger and was expected to be moved from intensive care to a standard hospital ward.
She is also reported to have a small burn on one finger, possibly caused when she pressed the button to activate the bubble system.
The Policia Nacional have ruled out any suggestion of deliberate action. Granada’s government subdelegate, Jose Antonio Montilla, said the investigation is now focused on establishing the exact cause of the incident and is treating it as an accident.
The woman was admitted to the intensive care unit after collapsing in the spa area of a hotel located on Calle San Anton, in Granada’s city centre.
Sources close to the case told IDEAL that she may have suffered an electric shock while using the spa, before going into cardiorespiratory arrest.
Medical sources said she was admitted to the cardiovascular intensive care unit in a serious condition following the cardiac arrest.
Hotel Villa Oniria told IDEAL that the woman had suffered a sudden collapse for reasons that were not known at the time and that staff immediately called emergency services.
They added that she was taken to hospital conscious so doctors could monitor her condition more closely.
The investigation continues.
