A man found with methamphetamine in Mijas tried to claim he was a shaman and that the drugs were harmless powders, it has emerged.
According to the Guardia Civil, the car the 31-year-old was travelling in was pulled over on the AP-7 motorway as part of a routine stop this week.
Officers found a backpack containing several substances, including 50 grams of meth, precision scales and €1,812 in cash.
The suspect told officers he carried out ‘healings’ using shamanic rituals and that the powders were plant and fungus-based preparations.
But an on-the-spot test confirmed that one of the containers held methamphetamine.
The remaining substances have been sent to the health authorities for further analysis.
The detainee, along with the seized materials and case files, has been handed over to the duty court in Fuengirola.
The operation was carried out by officers from the Guardia Civil’s main post in Mijas.
