Weather experts have warned of a potential new DANA in Andalucia this week following an unusually warm start to December.
It comes after parts of the southernmost region saw highs of over 22C during the bank holiday weekend.
According to forecaster Jose Luis Escudero, author of SUR’s Tormentas y Rayos blog, a weather front is expected to sweep into western Andalucia from Wednesday (December 10).
State weather agency Aemet says Wednesday is likely to bring moderate rainfall across the western half of the region, with the possibility of persistent or locally heavy showers during the first half of the day.
Meteorologists said it will not be possible to pinpoint how far this front will affect Malaga until updated models are released on Tuesday.
Forecasters are also monitoring the likely formation of a DANA near the Gulf of Cadiz towards Friday.
Both the European and American weather models currently indicate this scenario, although its eventual impact on Andalucia remains uncertain until mid-week.
If confirmed, Aemet notes that Friday could bring significant rainfall accumulations in western parts of Spain, including Galicia, the western Cantabrian area, the Central System, Extremadura and western Andalucia.
The agency also does not rule out increased rainfall over the western Alboran.
