Malaga’s Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking prison sentences of 18 and 15.5 years for the two men, who are charged with kidnapping, assault and extortion, among other crimes.

According to court documents, in June 2021, the suspects and the victim were in a flat when one of the accused pulled a knife, held it to the victim’s throat and forced him into the kitchen, where the second man was waiting. There, they allegedly locked him in against his will.

Assault, mutilation and extortion

The victim was reportedly repeatedly beaten and forced to undress. With the same knife, one of the attackers allegedly cut the letter ‘M’ into his face and made another wound near his left shoulder blade.

The beating continued until the man lost consciousness.

Later, they moved him to a hostel, where they tied him to a chair with cable ties, threatened him with a knife, and demanded €3,000 plus an additional €5,000.

They forced him to call his father to transfer money and to hand over his bank card details.

Once the funds were in his account, the suspects took him to various ATMs to withdraw €1,200. The next day, while the victim was again tied up, they used his card details to extract another €800.

Over the following days, the victim was moved between several properties, always kept restrained.

Eventually, he was left tied up in a car in a garage belonging to one of the suspects. Once they left, he managed to free himself and escape.

Weapons, drugs and fake ID

Police searches of properties linked to the suspects uncovered metal and plastic batons, as well as drugs including cannabis, ketamine and MDMA, all intended for trafficking.

Officers also found a tampered ID document bearing the photo of one of the accused.

Long recovery and psychological trauma

The victim suffered serious injuries that required 90 days of treatment and left him with both physical and psychological after-effects.

One defendant has deposited €6,500 and the other €2,000 in anticipation of possible civil liabilities.
