Two motorcyclists have died in a horror crash in Torremolinos.
The incident took place on the old N-340 road, just before the turnoff for Malaga Airport in the early hours of Thursday.
Emergency services confirmed that one of the victims was a 43-year-old man. Details about the second victim have not yet been released.
The collision occurred at 6.55am, prompting immediate calls to emergency hotline 112.
All three lanes heading toward Torremolinos were shut down, causing major traffic backups that stretched for several kilometres.
Local police opened an adjacent service lane to ease congestion, but the measure proved insufficient against the gridlock faced by thousands of commuters.
By mid-morning, the traffic jam extended along the MA-20 from kilometre 11 to kilometre 5.9 in the direction of Churriana.
Drivers heading toward the airport were advised to take the MA-20 as an alternate route. The affected exit ramp was MA-21.
