A much-loved Marbella restaurant has won a coveted plaque for its vast collection of wines and sherries.
La Bodega del Cantinero, in San Pedro de Ancantara, was officially recognised by the leading organisation Sherry Wines: Vinos de Jerez.
The body, supported by the Junta de Andalucia, has been awarding certain establishments plaques since 2010.
Owner of La Bodega del Cantinero, Alberto, told the Spanish Eye: ‘I’m very proud to have received this recognition, I am the only establishment in Marbella to receive it.’

Alberto is an expert in wines and sherries and has hundreds of products available at his restaurant.
In 2010, the Regulatory Council of Sherry Wines created an official seal to certify the excellence of a selection in certain establishments, taking into consideration their offering, knowledge and service of Sherry Wines.
Some of the requirements to receive the plaque are:
- A member of the front-of-house/bar staff must have completed the basic Sherry and Manzanilla Wine course.
- At least one member of the establishment’s team must have successfully completed the advanced Sherry and Manzanilla Wine course.
- The establishment must have at least 15 Sherry wines in its permanent offering.
- The establishment must have a prominent and visible wine list, in the case of restaurants or gastronomic venues, or a recommended wine list, in the case of wine bars.
