Inland Andalucia is heading into the last stretch of summer with little relief from the heat.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a yellow weather alert for much of Sevilla province and other areas, warning of soaring daytime highs that will push thermometers close to 40C this week.
Between Wednesday and Friday, temperatures in Sevilla are forecast to hit 38C on two consecutive days before peaking at 39C on Friday.
Nights will offer little respite, with minimums stubbornly above 20C, creating stifling conditions across the province.
The alerts will remain active daily between 1pm and 7.59pm.

Health officials are urging residents to stay hydrated, limit time in direct sun, and ensure children, the elderly and those with medical conditions remain in cool or air-conditioned spaces.
The sweltering conditions are also being felt in neighbouring provinces. Cordoba’s Campiña, Jaen’s Valle del Guadalquivir, and the Morena and Condado areas are all under the same yellow heat warning.
Cooler air on the horizon
The weekend will mark a turning point. While Saturday will still be hot – with highs around 35C and lows near 22C – Sunday will finally bring autumnal relief.
Forecasts show a dramatic drop, with daytime highs dipping to 28°C and nighttime lows down to 14°C, just as the official start of autumn arrives on Monday, September 22.
