Hellmann’s has agreed to cover the damages of a Sevilla bar after a fuming customer set it on fire.
The Las Postas bar in Los Palacios y Villafranca was set on alight on August 20 when a disgruntled customer became furious that staff could not provide mayonnaise with his montadito (small sandwich).
CCTV footage showed how he returned from a nearby petrol station carrying a bottle of petrol. He doused the bar and set it ablaze, causing more than €20,000 worth of damage.
The man was arrested at the scene, suffering burns, and is currently being held in pre-trial detention.
Hellmann’s steps in
In a gesture that has quickly gone viral, Hellmann’s announced on social media: ‘We’re sorry we weren’t there. From now on, count on us.
‘Let us handle the repairs, and make sure you’ll never run out of mayonnaise for your montaditos again.’
Owner Jose Antonio Liebre thanked the company for its solidarity, confirming that Las Postas and Hellmann’s will work together from now on.

The bizarre attack
The fire broke out at around 7pm after the man asked twice – once at the bar and again on the terrace – for mayonnaise.
When told none was available, he allegedly stormed off, bought petrol, and returned to set the premises alight.
Local police, alerted by a waitress who followed him, quickly intervened and detained the suspect.
