Tourists are still flocking to Andalucia with several airports reporting a surge in the number of arrivals so far this year.
In total, the region’s airports handled 26.4 million passengers between January and August, a year-on-year increase of 5.9%, according to new data released by Aena.
The standout performer is Malaga–Costa del Sol Airport, which once again smashed records in August with 3.9 million travellers, marking a 5.8% rise compared to the same month last year.
In total, Malaga has already welcomed almost 18.1 million passengers in 2025, up 7.8% from 2024, consolidating its position as Andalucia’s busiest hub and one of Spain’s top gateways.
Sevilla and Granada climb, Jerez and Almeria mixed
Sevilla Airport also performed strongly, surpassing 6.3 million passengers so far this year, a 4.6% increase. In August alone, 774,396 travellers passed through its terminals.
Granada saw 752,568 passengers in the first eight months, rising by 1%. August was particularly strong for the city, with growth of 7.1% year-on-year.
Jerez de la Frontera, meanwhile, recorded 593,567 passengers in 2025 to date. But in August traffic dipped 8.2%, totalling 106,430. Almeria followed a similar pattern: 555,573 passengers so far this year, down slightly by 0.3%, although August did see a modest 1.6% rise.
Cordoba and Algeciras stand out
Cordoba Airport, which only handles small volumes, posted spectacular growth: 14,042 passengers up to August, a leap of 125.9% year-on-year. In August alone it welcomed 3,392 travellers, up 80.7%.
At the Algeciras heliport, passenger numbers hit 25,574 in the first eight months of the year, up 11.9%. August traffic jumped 18.3%, with 3,338 passengers recorded.
International demand drives growth
Malaga’s growth has been powered by foreign demand. In August, more than 2.3 million passengers flew internationally, led by the UK (698,456 travellers), followed by Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Poland and Morocco.
Domestic demand also rose sharply, with 482,355 passengers on Spanish routes – a 13.7% increase.
Sevilla’s August traffic was evenly split between domestic (397,045) and international (376,811) passengers. Italy, the UK and France topped the list of overseas destinations.
Jerez, Almeria and Granada also maintained steady international links, while Cordoba and Algeciras remained almost entirely domestic.
A booming summer for Andalucia skies
In total, 244,977 flight operations were carried out across the region from January to August, up 5.4% compared to last year. Of those, 34,647 took place in August alone.
With record-breaking numbers in Malaga and strong growth in Sevilla and Granada, Andalucia’s airports are on course for one of their busiest years in history – despite mixed performance in Jerez and Almeria.
