Fire crews are battling a forest fire in Benalmadena after flames broke out in the Santangelo Oeste area, forcing the evacuation of at least six homes on Camino de las Canteras.

The blaze, which began at 12.26pm, quickly spread through scrubland fanned by strong winds, complicating firefighting efforts.

Residents were asked to leave their homes as a precaution while emergency teams moved in.

Two specialised Brica units from Cartama, a heavy helicopter, a light helicopter, forest firefighting brigades, water tenders, technicians and an environmental officer were dispatched by Plan Infoca, Andalucía’s forest fire response service.

Local resources, including Benalmadena’s full fire brigade and Civil Protection teams, joined the effort.

Municipal officials confirmed that road access has been restricted and urged the public to keep access routes clear and to follow official instructions as crews work to bring the flames under control.

By 1.45pm, footage shared online appeared to showed the worst of the fire had been put out.
