A British woman has been arrested over the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Mijas.
The suspect, 59, was cuffed on Sunday, August 10, according to sources quoted by Diario Sur, although details of the case have only just emerged.
The incident occurred at around 11pm on La Cala Boulevard, when the teenager, an Italian national, was sitting on a bench.
The suspect allegedly sat next to her and, after starting a conversation, allegedly began touching her.
The teenager managed to escape and went to a nearby bar where her aunt was, who alerted the police.
Mijas Local Police officers arrived at the scene, assisted the victim, and arrested the suspect, who reportedly has a criminal record.
The young woman was subsequently taken to a health centre for evaluation and, later, to a Guardia Civil station with her family to file a complaint.
The arrested woman, described as British by local newspaper Area Costa del Sol, was placed at the disposal of the Guardia Civil, which has taken charge of the proceedings.
