Summer is well on its way in southern Spain this week following one of the wettest springs in recent memory.
According to state weather agency Aemet, the southernmost region of Andalucia could see highs of 35C over the coming days.
The hottest day is expected to be Thursday, with inland regions like Sevilla and Granada expected to see temperatures reach the mid 30s.
However, Aemet warned that between Thursday and Saturday, the eastern half of the region may be met with clouds and even rain and storms, especially on Friday and Saturday.
Speaking to Europa Press, Aemet spokesman Juan de Dios del Pino said that highs will rise by five or six degrees until Thursday, when the mercury could reach 35C, before dropping by two or three degrees.
Thus, high temperatures will be above average all week and will be relatively high by May 22.
The weather will be mostly sunny until Thursday, although between then and the first half of Saturday, the stability will be interrupted by cloudy periods.
These cloudy periods – more frequent during the day – are expected in the provinces of Almeria, Granada, Jaen, and Malaga, as well as in Grazalema (Cadiz), southern Córdoba, and the Sierra Sur de Sevilla, with the possibility of occasional showers and thunderstorms, especially on Friday and Saturday.
