A series of weather warnings have been issued across Spain for Thursday – including along the Costa Blanca.

From 12pm and until at least 10pm, the whole of Alicante province, including Benidorm, is under a yellow warning for strong rainfall and storms.

According to state weather agency Aemet, the rough weather could see hailstones fall on the region, a sight almost unheard of this deep into May.

Meteorologists predict up to 15mm of rain could fall within an hour, with the same alert in place across the majority of the Valencia region, Madrid and northwestern areas of the mainland.

A more severe orange alert has been issued for southern inland Valencia, due to the risk of large hailstones and up to 30mm of rain.

The same orange threat is in place for inland parts of Almeria, including Albox.
