The body of a woman was found on a beach in the Canary Islands over the weekend, it has emerged.

The unidentified corpse was located on Los Enanos beach on Gran Canaria on Sunday.

The beach is situated in San Andrea, in the municipality of Arucas on the northern side of the island.

The Guardia Civil is leading the investigation, reports local newspaper El Dia.

No further details are known about the deceased or the possible causes of death.

The body was found in a coastal area open to the public, with no documents or ID.

Investigators are working to find any clues that may reveal who she was and what she was doing in the area.

Police are not ruling out any hypothesis at this stage.

It is hoped an autopsy this week will shed more light on the woman’s cause of death.
