A British expat has issued a warning for anyone visiting Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol.

Paula Lock claimed in a Facebook post that her phone and purse had been stolen out of her bag by ‘professional’ pickpockets.

It comes amid a surge in petty criminals along the coast ahead of the summer season, including ‘bird poo scammers’ and car thieves.

Paula wrote: ‘Just so people are aware, a strangely dressed couple, wearing hats and coats sat next to us today on the Plaza de Andalucia and stole my phone and purse which were in my bag next to me.

‘There were eight of us so they were obviously professionals as anyone could have seen but unfortunately didn’t.

‘The bar man said they were Latinos but not Spanish.

‘They could have had the €50 but the hassle is unreal. I’ve lived here years and never known anything like it.’
